Hip and full of history, Berlin is a welcoming city for families and a great stop on a European adventure. With multiple neighborhoods and accommodation styles to choose from, it can be overwhelming to pick the perfect spot as your base. Luckily, the 5-star Regent Berlin hotel makes that choice easy with the perfect combination of location, service and style.
Entering the hotel, you are welcomed as if you are walking into a great friend’s (fabulous) home. The lobby has an incredible signature scent that makes the space smell as warm and cozy as the staff will make you feel. Check-in was quick but didn’t seem rushed — a much-needed benefit, as we were toting a 2-year-old who was antsy to run around!
We were whisked away to our room to get comfortable and start exploring, complete with great advice from the staff. They gave us suggestions for where to take our daughter and fantastic regional information, along with a welcome amenity, so we could enjoy the duration of our stay with ease. It became clear in our first few minutes why Regent Berlin is one of the city’s top hotels.
Regent Berlin has one of the most perfect locations in the city, a stone’s throw from the beautiful, pedestrian-only Gendarmenmarkt public square and walking distance from Brandenburg Gate and Tiergarten Park. It’s nestled between two different metro lines, so getting to the zoo or to interesting neighborhoods like Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg is equally easy. There are multiple great restaurants within walking distance from the hotel, including a wonderful chocolate shop where you can build your own ice cream bar — the culinary highlight for the little ones!

With entry-level rooms starting at 430 square feet, there is plenty of space for a family of three to be comfortable. Larger families will enjoy the myriad connecting room options or a bigger suite. The decor is traditional and elegant yet warm and comfortable; children will love the huge marble soaking tub, complete with fun toys, soaps and lotions provided by the hotel to make bathtime feel like home. Many rooms have great views of the city, and despite the location in the heart of Berlin, we didn’t experience any street noise.
Regent Berlin has exceptional food across its multiple venues. You can enjoy a sunny afternoon snack at the Summer Lounge Orange, casual but refined fare at Charlotte and Fritz, a classic but fun afternoon tea at the Lobby Lounge or all-day light dining at the Regent Bar. All can cater the menu to kids when there isn’t a proper children’s menu available (ideal for our picky eater). Whether you are looking for traditional German fare, a great steak or noodles with marinara, there’s something to satisfy.
When traveling with a young child, you’ll inevitably have a day that ends early. The hotel offers spectacular room-service fare that represents the local culture well — a way to experience the area in comfort.
The absolute standout at Regent Berlin was the service level of the employees. We were greeted by name by almost everyone we encountered. Our child has food allergies, and the breakfast staff would go out of their way to make recommendations for her in the morning to ensure she was well fed and happy. Traveling with a toddler is not always easy, but we always felt incredibly comfortable in the hotel due to the kind and welcoming nature of the staff.
For parents looking for a way to balance sightseeing with relaxation, the Regent Berlin has you covered. The spa has a variety of massages to soothe weary muscles or recoup from a long flight. Even if you’re not up to a full treatment, you should at least visit the spa area for the sauna experience — they offer two different options depending on your preference for heat.
If you are feeling extra active and the walking around town isn’t enough exercise for you, the hotel gym is a great spot to start or end the day. A variety of equipment includes free weights, state-of-the-art cardio machines and a stretching area.
A huge benefit for parents: The extremely flexible hours (6am-10pm for the spa, 24 hours for the fitness center) mean you can take turns visiting before the kids are up and ready for the day.
