Family-Friendly Hotel Bliss at The Langham, Chicago

No question about it, put The Langham, Chicago on your must-experience bucket list. Chicago has a dizzying array of hotels from which to choose, but this one is special. Occupying the first 13 floors of an official city landmark, a 52-story skyscraper designed by Mies van der Rohe, the Langham offers guests a grand Chicago luxury experience paired with exceptional amenities for parents and their children.

Floor-to-ceiling windows with brilliant views of the Chicago River, Lake Michigan and the surrounding skyline provide a persistent sense of place from both guest rooms and public spaces. The design has wonderful contradictions: It’s classic and timeless, yet fresh and exciting; it feels stylish, but not trendy; it’s elegant, yet approachable.

And best of all, there’s no question this hotel is kid-friendly. The Langham, Chicago invested big time in families by adding a Kids’ Suite play area. This is a most unusual feature for a city hotel. We love it!

Langham Club Lounge

Club rooms and suites have access to the very special Langham Club Lounge, a stunning 4,000-square-foot private space offering complimentary breakfast, snacks, tea service, cocktails and evening hors d’oeuvres. The food and service are excellent, making the Langham Club a wonderful place to work, relax or read together. There’s both table and lounge seating for productivity and social time.

A private registration desk and butler service is available for Club guests. There were many families using the Club Lounge during our stay â€” it provides a comfortable place to eat with children as everyone can spread out.

Guests can book any guest room or suite in the hotel and have the ability to access the lounge. Club access is $120 per night for adults, $60 per night for children 6 and over, and complimentary for children 5 and under.

Chuan Spa and Wellness Center

East meets West at the 22,000-square-foot Chuan Spa, the ultimate place for busy parents to de-stress and unwind. The extensive wellness facilities include an herbal sauna, salt stone sauna, aromatherapy shower, and, if that isn’t enough, a chamomile-scented Oriental steam room and heated relaxation recliners. Access to these heavenly facilities is complimentary for hotel guests.

An extensive array of comprehensive face and body treatments is offered by skilled technicians. I tried the Resurfacing Stem Cell Facial and emerged refreshed and rejuvenated from the entire experience. In addition, there’s a 67-foot swimming pool that children are able to access with their parents, as well as a fitness room and a group class studio with daily classes.

Dining and Lounging at The Langham, Chicago

The main restaurant, Travelle, houses a dramatic open kitchen specializing in Mediterranean cuisine. We didn’t get the chance to try a full meal there, but we did check out the restaurant’s lounge, which has a contemporary, fun aesthetic. Meanwhile, the brand’s signature The Langham Afternoon Tea service, dating back to 1865, is offered in the light and airy Pavilion Lounge.
