I have a journalism degree and was a writer and editor for more than 25 years, mostly for regional and national magazines. Along the way, I also did a stint in PR and marketing for a major university. My first editorial job out of college gave me a taste of travel writing, and I was hooked — the more I saw of the world, the longer my wish list got. I first discovered the Ciao Bambino blog many years ago when I was searching for places to visit with my (now college-age) son, and was bowled over right away by the wealth of expertise, inspiration and resources. All of that combined makes Ciao Bambino my ultimate dream job!
There are so many … some simple, some spectacular, but all precious. Kayaking around St. Lucia with my husband as a school of flying fish leapt across our laps; walking on the ancient stones of the Via Appia Antica in Rome; hunting for sea stars in the tidepools of Orcas Island; rafting down the crystal-clear Soca River in Slovenia; floating in a sampan through Vietnam’s Mekong Delta; snorkeling with sea turtles in Kauai; and dozens more come to mind. I love history, especially the medieval era and earlier, so I’m drawn to places that feel strongly evocative of the past. As a lifelong bibliophile, I also like to seek out independent bookshops wherever I go and usually come home with at least one or two new volumes to add to my shelf.
Travel, whether near or far, is one of the most amazing gifts you can give children — it opens their eyes to new cultures, strengthens their resilience, sparks curiosity, fosters empathy and empowers them to navigate a rapidly changing world. It’s a joy and a privilege to promote this mission at Ciao Bambino and to share the incredible knowledge, passion and creativity our team brings to everything we do.
