Relax and Rejuvenate at Miraval Berkshires in Massachusetts

Whether Massachusetts‘ Berkshires are ablaze with vibrant fall foliage or lie cloaked in a blanket of snow — or something in between — Miraval Berkshires Resort and Spa is the ideal place for an adults-only getaway. I recently enjoyed a wonderful winter weekend at Miraval Berkshires with my daughter, who was home from college for the holidays. 

While connecting with other guests through the onsite activities or conversing in common areas, we met couples of all ages, solo travelers, multigenerational families with older children and groups celebrating birthdays. Miraval Berkshires truly has something for everyone, from unique equine experiences to yoga to pottery, and the opportunities for exploration while unwinding are endless.

NOTE: Although Miraval Berkshires normally welcomes guests 18 and up, the resort is hosting a Family Connections Week in February 2025 with no minimum age requirement. Read on for more info.

Review and Highlights of Miraval Berkshires

Miraval Berkshires is nestled in the Berkshire mountains in Lenox, Massachusetts. This is the ideal location to encourage relaxation while also providing a bounty of opportunities for adventure. For instance, hiking experiences allow guests to discover the nature around Miraval. Those who seek a different outdoor thrill might enjoy the high ropes course or zipline, which both offer another view of the Berkshires.

Accommodations

Miraval Berkshires has 120 rooms and suites divided among Carriage Houses, Cottages and the Wyndhurst Mansion. The property has seamlessly integrated natural elements into the design, such as wood, stone, flowing water and earth tones, creating a calming atmosphere for guests.

The Carriage House suites are ideal for larger parties and gatherings, as they are complete with a separate living area and a wet bar or kitchenette. Additionally, they are set off in a location that allows for added privacy while being only a few steps from the interior pathway system connecting to the main building.

The Cottages at Miraval Berkshires are a collection of tranquil rooms and suites with a nod to classic, polished New England country homes. These accommodations, some with balconies, are conveniently connected through indoor passages to the entire resort. We stayed in the Cottages and especially enjoyed relaxing in the fireplace rooms off the main passage that links them.

Wyndhurst Mansion includes 10 charming rooms and suites named after writers, artists and creatives. This historical mansion is not connected to the main building of Miraval Berkshires, but the entrance to the pathway system is not far. Wyndhurst Mansion is an excellent option for golfers, as it allows for convenient access to the golf course.

Onsite Activities

At Miraval Berkshires, the list of onsite activities is unending. Guests can view the extensive catalog of experiences online prior to their stay and will also receive a booklet of the experiences upon arrival at the property. It’s recommended for guests to book activities in advance via the resort’s straightforward online booking portal. Guests are encouraged to reach out to the Experience Planners when choosing activities, as they are happy to give recommendations, help with booking or changing selections, and assist with anything else to ensure that guests are excited about their personalized Miraval itinerary. You can engage Experience Planners both in advance and while you’re on-property.

For our stay, we used the online booking portal but also checked in with an Experience Planner, which was extremely beneficial. We received recommendations and confirmation that our activities were properly booked, which alleviated any possible worries about the scheduling process.

Some activities in which we had the joy of participating include the Vibrational Sound Chamber with singing bowls, Morning Meditation, Pottery: The Way of the Wheel, Restorative Yoga, Pilates Reformer Workout and Herbal Salve Creation. In the spa, we enjoyed reiki and a facial. When reflecting on our time at Miraval Berkshires, we found all of the experiences relaxing and enriching. The sound chamber, however, stood out as a favorite and we noticed that other guests we spoke with also raved about this experience. 

One of the signature activities at Miraval is Just Cook for Me Chef, in which a small group gathers around a connoisseur’s table to enjoy a four-course menu of the chef’s choice paired with red, rosé or white wines. This experience is designed for the adventurous foodie, so the staff asks guests to arrive with an open mind (and notify them of food allergies and dietary restrictions at the time of booking).

Other activity recommendations include any of the hikes, equine experiences and cardio drumming.

Dining

Guests at Miraval Berkshires can dine at Harvest Moon Restaurant or 1894 Restaurant, and can enjoy grab-and-go snacks, smoothies and other drinks at The Roost. Meals at Harvest Moon and The Roost are included in all packages, whereas 1894 is not. Wherever you choose to dine, you can rest assured that the food, crafted with local and fresh ingredients, will satisfy. Additionally, if you have any food allergies or restrictions, contact the Experience Planners before your stay so that they can note these in your profile; the chefs are very accommodating.

Harvest Moon offers an array of new meals every day. The menu is mindful and inclusive of various diets, and always includes vegetarian and vegan selections. Guests can appreciate a fine dining experience at 1894, which is more formal and indulgent with a prix fixe menu. It is also worth noting that 1894 Restaurant only offers dinner and is generally geared toward groups of four or less to encourage mindfulness and limit noise.

The Roost offers prepared snacks for guests to grab throughout the day, which is especially beneficial for those who have many experiences scheduled and may not have time for a sit-down meal. Smoothies, coffee, alcoholic beverages and other drinks are also available at The Roost (alcohol is not included).

Amenities

In addition to the abundant list of aforementioned onsite activities, guests can simply relax in the spa area. Even if you do not have a spa experience booked, you can unwind in the steam room, sauna, serenity pool and indoor/outdoor lounge pool.

Miraval also offers a complimentary airport shuttle for arriving and departing guests to Bradley International Airport (nearby in Connecticut), Wassaic Train Station and the Pittsfield Train Station (May-October).

Things to Know

Miraval Berkshires has a no-tipping policy, which promotes relaxation. The resort also facilitates digital mindfulness; guests are asked to use technology only in rooms and designated areas. We found that unplugging felt natural when in “Miraval Mode,” and it allowed for more connections with other guests.

Upcoming Family Connection Week

Miraval Berkshires will offer a special Family Connection Week from February 16-22, 2025. For this week, there will not be an age requirement for guests, but certain resort amenities, including full access to the Life in Balance Spa quiet room and Body Mindfulness Center, will remain exclusive to guests 18 and up. There will be exciting kid-friendly programs and children’s menus as well.
