There are modern cities where an immersive experience of another age can still be found, and Panama City is certainly one of them. Casco Viejo is the heart of Panama City’s historic quarter and American Trade Hotel exemplifies the gentrification and unbelievable transformation happening in Panama, one of the fastest-growing economic zones in Central America today.
Owned by the Ace Hotel group, American Trade Hotel is housed in a restored landmark building on a leafy square. Casco Viejo feels like a Latin New Orleans, with narrow streets filled with colorful colonial French and early American-inspired architecture. It’s grand and dilapidated at the same time, though the latter won’t last long as signs of rejuvenation efforts are everywhere.
Families seeking an authentic old-world experience need look no further. American Trade Hotels’ welcoming atmosphere appeals to all ages and the central location for exploring Panama City’s main attractions is optimal.

The design of American Trade Hotel is a property highlight. Two sides of the building have large windows that open up to the streets of Casco Viejo, and the ambiance is light, bright and airy. The decor is fresh with white walls and dark wood accents. Gorgeous original tiles add interest and depth.

Guest rooms follow the same theme and are simply designed and spacious. A few of the larger rooms accommodate families in two queen beds and there are also two-room suites with separate living and sleeping areas. Many guest rooms have stunning views of either the Plaza Herrera or the Gulf of Panama.
Bathrooms feature rain showers and Aesop products.

One of the things I love most about American Trade Hotel is the plethora of inviting places to unwind and soak in the atmosphere. The large lobby lounge and bar includes several seating areas, in addition to a lively restaurant that is open all day and through the evening.
There’s an additional sun-filled interior terrace between the guest rooms, as well as a rooftop lounge with panoramic city views. A small pool is available for quick dips to cool off from the steamy weather. There’s also an eclectic library filled with books and magazines.

The service at the property is exceptional. The front desk staff are eager to please and go out of their way to offer advice and support. Panama City embraces its visitors and evidence of this is front and center at American Trade Hotel.
