I am a yoga teacher and have led U.S.-based and international yoga retreats for the past 10 years.
My favorite experiences have involved connecting with locals in unique destinations and learning something from their lifestyle that I eventually brought home. I have made pasta in Italian kitchens, hunted for avocados in Mexico, visited olive groves in Spain, sung karaoke with a group of Germans off the coast of Split, Croatia (and collected lavender there too), and ridden bikes in the French countryside. I met a man in Cuba who had made it his life mission to build a yoga community for the people who didn’t have access to one, and he invited me to lead a class with a Spanish translator —that was pretty amazing. I also love active experiences and try to infuse some sort of hiking or kayaking in most of my vacations. Slovenia’s natural terrain brought tears to my eyes, it was so beautiful.
The best thing about my job is creating custom itineraries that infuse the travel experiences I have loved about into others’ travel. We dont sell a template trip that moves people from tourist trap to tourist trap; we get to be creative and incorporate our knowledge of travel into a bespoke itinerary. I get butterflies when a family comes home, sends me a picture from their trip and gushes about what they loved. Recently, I got an email with a pic attached of a multigenerational family visiting the Vatican, and another family with three boys kaykaing in Costa Rica … big smiles!
