The sun had already called it a day when we arrived at Puerto Rico’s Condado Beach. Lined up on the balcony of our room at the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino, my family of four listened to the surf with anticipation, without realizing the surprise morning would bring. Just a 15-minute drive from San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, Condado offers a beach resort experience, with an assortment of restaurants, shops and convenience stores that are easily walkable from waterfront hotels. Casinos are easily accessible, if desired, but certainly not required to enjoy the ambience of the area. Signs of the destruction Hurricane Maria left behind can still be found, but a sense of normalcy has returned.
Perhaps the only thing better than falling asleep to the sounds of the ocean is waking up to them, with the sun shining bright. Rough waves make Condado best for families looking to play in the sand, but the surf is just steps from the San Juan Marriott’s pool and waterslide, making it easy to go back and forth whenever the mood strikes.
