Tortuguero, population just 1200, is in the middle of the Costa Rica jungle. A two-hour boat ride from the regular hustle and bustle of daily Costa Rican life, the Laguna Lodge’s location is one of its most celebrated features. Laguna Lodge offers comfortable, rustic rooms in an incredible jungle setting. The rooms are simple but well thought out. All rooms have a porch area with rocking chairs. A ceiling fan takes the place of air-conditioning, but you won’t miss it. Room windows are covered with screens and movable privacy shutters but no glass, allowing the evening breeze and sounds of the jungle to lure you to sleep. There are no televisions or phones in the rooms, so your morning wake-up call will come in the form of a good morning knock on your door. But my guess is the birds and monkeys will have already gotten you out of bed.
