Capri on Italy’s Amalfi Coast has long attracted the jet set, from celebrities to business tycoons, but that doesn’t mean families are excluded from this beautiful island. Since this oasis in the Tyrrhenian Sea fills up with day trippers from mid-morning to late afternoon, one of the best ways to see the island is by private boat. There is nothing like chartering a sailboat around Capri to make you feel like one of the rich and famous. A must-do for any boating excursion is a trip through the Faraglioni Rocks.
These three sea stacks that rise out of the sea have long captivated sailors. The Faraglione di Mezzo looks a bit like a gorilla bent over, with just enough space for a boat to pass through his “arms.” During our recent visit to Capri, we hired a boat to explore around the island, where we swam through the Emerald Grotto, made the obligatory stop at the Blue Grotto to hear the rowboat captains’ serenade in that unearthly blue cave, and took some time to swim in the bright blue waters of the sea.
With a private boat tour, your wish is really their command, whether you are visiting from the Amalfi Coast and want to spend some time on the island, or want to bask in the sun and sea with a quick jaunt to the coast for a seaside lunch. Our private boat tour around Capri was one of the most memorable days of all of our trips combined.
