10 Reasons Families Love to Vacation at Sunriver Resort

Sunriver Resort provided us with media rates to experience the property. As always, our thoughts and opinions are our own.

Whenever you meet someone who has vacationed at Sunriver Resort with kids, they rave about the experience. This outdoors-focused resort in Central Oregon has legendary status among families. After spending a week there this summer with four kids from 3 to 14, I’m onboard with the rave reviews.

Here’s what makes Sunriver so great with kids:

Activities Galore

The variety of activities available for all ages is nothing short of astounding. From lazy days by the pool, to horseback riding, to golf clinics, to mountain bike riding — choosing what to do is the most taxing part of a family vacation in Sunriver.

Hassle-Free Entertainment

Activities within the expansive resort complex are hassle-free to access. There’s a complimentary on-demand shuttle for lodge guests and a 35-mile network of bike paths that go anywhere and everywhere within the resort. Once you arrive at Sunriver, you can park the car keys on the counter.

Last Minute Bliss

I like nothing less than having to plan out every day of my vacation ahead of time. It’s much more relaxing to arrive, get the lay of the land, and then decide. We were at Sunriver during one of their peak weeks in July and were still able to plan everything we did after arrival with the concierge.

Sunriver Resort Lazy River

Every age truly has something to do here. Toddlers love the tot pools and open spaces for running around carefree; school age kids have a huge list of sports from which to choose, including clinics and lessons to introduce them to new things or improve what they already know. Tweens and teens can find age-appropriate challenges from mountain biking, to golf, to kayaking down the Deschutes River.

Parents have all of the aforementioned delights plus a wonderful spa and fitness center.

Bike Till You Drop

If you don’t think you like bike riding, I guarantee you’ll like it at Sunriver. The paths make it stress free. They are mostly flat so exertion can be minimal — you choose. There is zero stress around cars and the paths are trailer and training wheels friendly so everyone in the family can join the fun.

A River Runs Through It

The Deschutes River runs through the property and families can take a 6-mile float trip together. It’s mellow so all ages can participate and either raft or kayak for more excitement. Most families make a day of it and pack lunch/snacks and hit the shore along the way for breaks.

Home-Style Accommodations

The resort offers rooms and condo-style accommodations, as well as full homes for rent. Every shape, size and configuration is available for independent families or multiple families traveling together.

Hello Celestial Bodies

Oregon has little light pollution and some of the best stargazing in the lower 48. Sunriver resort runs a nature center and observatory. We saw Saturn’s rings 10 different ways through an array of telescopes.

Eat at Home … or Not

Sunriver Resort dining is perfect for families. There is a village with a grocery store filled with extensive produce and fresh goods. There are also several restaurants on the property. We tried a few of them and they were consistently good and well-priced.

When we didn’t feel like cooking, we picked up take out so we could enjoy our glorious deck overlooking Mt. Bachelor.

Affordable

Compared to other destinations offering not even a fraction of what Sunriver offers families in terms of quality and the array of activities, Sunriver is very affordable for both the price of accommodations and incidentals.
