I was an HR professional and transitioned into advertising sales and consulting.
We love experiences that allow us to feel a part of the culture while maximizing quality time with our toddler. One location that we always return to is Germany, specifically the Bavarian Alps. We love the history, connecting with nature and watching our girl light up while exploring. We also have found this in our travels through Italy — it was magical watching her get excited about rolling out pasta in Tuscany and become fascinated with the artwork at the Vatican. It is wonderful watching the world through her eyes and recreating these experiences at home (she now helps me in the kitchen, or at least tries most days). There have been really special times when she gets to interact with local kids, whether at a playground or during a class or event. It is amazing how the language of play is universally understood!
Before having our daughter, I was pretty nervous about the idea of having kids and losing the opportunity to get to do the things I am passionate about, like travel. I soon discovered that it is still possible to have great adventures with kids, and can actually be more fun and rewarding than traveling on your own. That being said, there is a new set of strategies you need to employ while traveling with kids, and I love sharing with clients the experiences and logistics that make family travel so wonderful.
