Bailiffscourt Hotel and Spa is as enchanting as its history. It appears to be an ancient Medieval estate, complete with manor house, church, feudal cottages and outbuildings. But all is not what it seems. It never was. The buildings weren’t actually built until 1927 when Lord Moyne (of Guinness brewery fame) commissioned an architect to create a house in the Medieval style that his wife adored. The result is a beautiful jigsaw of architectures surrounded by meadowland and formal gardens leading to a barren stretch of beach. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed but with no pointless breakable, stainable flounces. The restaurant is modern European set in the sumptuous surroundings of a Medieval banqueting hall and offers a pared down little kids and big kids’ menu. The grounds are dotted with mini football pitches, table tennis and swings hanging from trees. There is also a beautiful new spa sympathetically designed in keeping with the rest of the architecture, with a heated indoor and outdoor pool and children’s swim times. There is no kids’ club. This is a hotel you come to to be with your kids and enjoy quality family time together.
