Before Becoming an Advisor …

For many years I taught art history as a university professor, working primarily with art and design students.  As an academic, I traveled extensively in Europe and taught art history courses for six summers in China, which allowed me to explore many different parts of Asia.

My Favorite Travel Experiences

I was fortunate to grow up in a family that prized travel, and many of my most treasured travel memories are with my parents–childhood trips to Alaska with my outdoorsman father, Christmas markets in Brussels and Munich with my mother on our first European trip together to celebrate my completion of college. Over the past decade, my husband has joined in the family adventuring, and we have made wonderful summer memories exploring France, Italy, and Greece by car. Perhaps my most transformative travel memory was my first trip to Spain–the rapturous flamenco, the glorious food and wine, the thriving cultural traditions, the Alhambra, the Mezquita, the Sagrada Familia! Aside from travel with family, I have also greatly enjoyed designing and leading spring break trips to New York City for college art students. It was deeply rewarding to watch these young students absorb great art and architecture, experience fine dining, dive into immersive theater, check out late-night jazz sessions, and in general come into their own as confident travelers already dreaming of their next trips independently. Perhaps my favorite memory on these trips was at a studio just off Times Square when a curious dance teacher inquired why the trail of students behind me had signed up for a class with her in Butoh, a relatively obscure Japanese avant-garde dance form. Before I could respond, a student piped up, “Because Prof. Sik told us it would be amazing, and we would follow her anywhere!”

Why I Love My Job

I love helping others find and enjoy wonderful experiences!  I am a planner and systems maker by nature (you’ll rarely find me without a spreadsheet close at hand!), and I sincerely enjoy both big-picture dreaming with clients as well as the detail-oriented work behind the scenes to make the vision a reality.  I believe that memorable travel is not just about choosing a destination but also thoughtfully setting the stage for experiences that families can cherish for a lifetime.  I enjoy working with families of all sizes and sorts (sometimes friends are the family we choose!), and I am thrilled to do this work with a company that is dedicated to helping families find truly outstanding travel experiences.
