Traditional theme family vacations are just part of the Disney story these days. From the Disney Cruise Line, to Adventures by Disney group trips, to Aulani Resort on Hawaii, there is something to please all ages and interests in the US and abroad.
I polled a few of the top bloggers who are also big Disney fans for their take on what’s new and exciting in 2013, including our own …
Red Tricycle is a go-to website for parents when they are looking for ideas on things to do with kids, what to eat or just what’s going on in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. They recently launched Red Tricycle San Diego and to celebrate they are giving away a family fun pack filled with tickets to the most popular family-friendly destinations in San Diego.
We are huge San Diego fans at Ciao Bambino. Nancy grew up in San Diego and returns at least once a year; we’ve covered many of the attractions in the prize package …
Nestled in the beautiful Kentish countryside is Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, the second wife (of six) of Henry VIII. An easy hour drive from south London, Hever is a favourite with my children, not least because it has an amazing water feature.
They also love the fact (as do I) that Anne and Henry are there, strolling around.
Let’s get one thing straight, before you visit under the assumption that you are about to wonder for miles under a tree-top canopy. The New Forest is not a strictly speaking a forest and it’s definitely not new.
If you take a horse, bike or just your feet on a wander through any of the 150-odd square miles that make up the New Forest, you’ll find the forest areas broken up by heather-covered heath ground and cute thatch-cottaged villages and laced by streams, brooks and rivers.
What’s an indoor waterpark? Sounds like a silly question if you live in the Midwest or East Coast where they are popular, but we don’t have them in California. Imagine three football fields filled with indoor water slides, lazy rivers, wave machines, and play structures. Put a cover over it and you’ve got an indoor waterpark — at least Kalahari style.
New York’s Hudson Valley remains under the radar as a family vacation destination, and I don’t get why. This verdant, 150-mile tract on both sides of the Hudson River offers affordable, wholesome fun when you want to whisk the kids away from the screens, and get back to basics.
This region is also an ideal addition to an itinerary which begins or ends in New York City, since it’s reachable in less than an hour by car or train.
I’m always happy to write about San Diego because it’s simply the perfect family vacation spot. I just wrote an article for Shermans Travel with an updated list of the top kid-friendly activities in and around the San Diego area, including a few of my favorite kid-friendly restaurants (I grew up in Del Mar).
The beauty of San Diego is the ability to balance swimming time with structured activities that are both fun and educational.
I asked Tim Hillson, an American father who lived in Barcelona for almost a decade with his Spanish wife, for his thoughts on Barcelona basics. These tips provide a great foundation for must-see attractions and activities. Thanks Tim! Introduction to Barcelona with Kids Barcelona is kid-friendly. After living here for the last nine years, I…
There are some family vacation deals out there that are a no brainer to take advantage of while on the road with kids. The cost of tourist attractions and theme parks can add up quickly for families. One key element for savings to be worthwhile, however, is ease-of-use. Meaning, you don’t need to spend hours to get the discounts since that negates the value entirely.
I was approached by Smart Destinations about their Go City Card a few weeks ago. You buy this electronic card (not tickets) …
