130€ for a 2-hour tour

My name is Stella Soldani and I have been a tour guide in Siena and its region since the year 2000; I’m also the mother of two kids. I love the art and traditions of my medieval town and I understand the interests and curiosities of young children and teenagers. Siena and the surrounding region offers many wonderful opportunities for families.

My tours involve children, parents and grandparents alike. We will look for the colors of Siena in art and nature — from animal sounds to the smells  from our restaurants, to exploring shops and museums, climbing towers, and walking through the medieval streets of the Guilds of the Palio Horse Race. We may even  follow the steps of James Bond movie Quantum of Solace. My tours sometimes end in an ancient garden where will enjoy Tuscan food prepared with organic vegetables and herbs.  Or in the afternoon, we may choose to move our treasure hunt to San Gimignano, the Chianti region, Pienza, Montalcino, join a cooking class to prepare Tuscan cakes, or to learn how to paint an actual fresco!

“You can’t have a better, more informative, more fun experience in Italy than you will have with Stella.  I have been on Siena tours with her with large and small groups, with all adults and also with children.  She is brilliant at knowing exactly how to aim her tour in order to maximize the experience for her group.  She intuits what will work best and always delivers with intelligence, humor, charm and kindness.  I can’t recommend her highly enough!”  Nancy L. Tucson, Arizona.

“I highly recommend the tour my family and I took with the delightful Stella Soldani.  Stella’s attention to detail and enthusiasm for the history, interesting facts and stories delighted adults and children alike.  Stella is fun, engaging, and very knowledgeable.  We still talk about our afternoon with Stella every time we think of Tuscany.” Helen L. Wokingham, Berkshire

“Rome Private Guides far surpassed our expectations. Viviana made all our arrangements, while visiting Italy, we had lots of fun filled sight seeing with learning.TheVatican tour for kids, and the Baroque Rome, were some of our favorites, the best part was that we did not have to wait in line! Thanks again Viviana for a job well done.” Rita, Cancun, Mexico

“We wanted a guide who could relate to an older child but also keep us entertained and interested as well. She was able to do that and really connected with our grandson. Viviana exceeded our high expectations; we were enchanted by her within the first few minutes. We were able to see so many more sites and learn so much about Rome and its history in just two days with her that we could not have accomplished in a week on our own. She made Roman history come alive.” Suzanne, Coronado, CA

Paolo Lenzi’s tours are conceived to let families get in touch with A Day in the Life of a Roman. From Greek mythology, to true events of Roman history, to funny stories about the rivalry between Bernini and Borromini in the XVII century Rome, rich history provides the excuse to stroll around “the old, maze-looking ruins” inside the Roman Forum or the excavation area of Ostia Antica.

Paulo has a degree in archeology and specializes in city walks, archeological tours, outdoor excursions to Tivoli and Ostia, as well as Vatican tours.

“In 2 hours Paolo took us through the Vatican. He keep my 2 children (8 yrs and 11 yrs) interested whilst giving them plenty of information.  He listened to their thoughts and questions and answered them with knowledge and patience.  He understood just how much information  they needed and how much they could take in. Paolo was my kids favorite guide in Italy.” -Amanda Price

“We spent three days with Paolo and he made Rome come to life for all of us.  Paolo kept my children – ages 9, 8 and 6 engaged and excited while learning about the history of Rome and the surrounding areas.  He gave so many interesting back stories about Rome. Most importantly, Paolo was easy to be around and we all really enjoyed his company and the wealth of knowledge he was able to share in an entertaining and engaging way.  He was the highlight of our trip to Italy.” -Maureen Fitzgerald

“My experience, from start to finish, was perfection. I searched online for many hours and found Nancy Aiello Tours to be the most personal, professional and prompt of all the tour companies I contacted. This tour was the real deal. It wasn’t a cliché tour where a guide tries too hard to create a silly “la dolce vita” experience. It also wasn’t a tour where we were simply ticking off famous locations. It was thoughtful, rich, beautifully paced and the best thing we did in Rome.” Kate, San Francisco

“My sister, girlfriend and I took a Nancy Aiello tour that consisted of an afternoon of cooking with Frederico and Stefania. We had a fantastic afternoon with Frederico and Stefania. They were able to combine simple recipes, terrific flavors, fantastic cooking and wine pairing with a knowledge of the history of Rome, both in cuisine and architecture. It was a highlight of our trip!!” John, Boston, MA

Context Travel’s Family Program brings children (and their lucky parents) into the museums and monuments of some of the greatest cities, and makes these places come alive through hands-on learning. We recognize that children learn differently from adults: They ask different questions, notice different details, and connect with culture and art in different ways than their parents. Our family program embraces these differences. Designed by a museum educator and guided by our many years’ experience working with families, the walks in this program draw on the latest approaches to on-site learning to craft amazing experiences for parents and their children. We currently offer our family program in the following cities: Madrid, New York, London, Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice, and Naples.

“Our docent employed many visual aides in making his points. His passion and enthusiasm for the art contained in the Vatican museum was infectious … even to the boys.” Jerome, Pittsburgh, PA

My name is Katia and I was born in Rome. I have worked as a licensed tour guide for many years. My first rule when I tour with families is: “If I make the children happy, the parents will be happy.” I really enjoy children and teenagers. I love telling tales and mythological stories. I use my iPad, Lenticular postcards (they change images when moved that help engage children) and I try to make kids feel included in the tour. I believe in Rome there is much more than the Vatican and the Colosseum; I love to explore “off the beaten path” places including underground Rome and hidden, beautiful districts. Last but not least, my tours always include time for a gelato or a slice of pizza (or for adults, a glass of good Italian wine).

“We told our two children that they each could choose a topic for a tour in Rome. One chose Aqueducts and the other chose Gladiators. Katia is amazing. She responds immediately to questions with ideas that fit the bill. On our tour we had the chance to see sights that many people never see. Because she is full of energy, the kids immediately react to her enthusiasm and became totally involved in the tour. We still talk about those tours and everyone remembers Katia with big smiles.” Christine, Boston, MA.

“Katia is a real gem for tours in and around Rome. Recommended by a close friend, Katia listened closely to our interests and developed tours for our trip with our grandchildren. A trip to the ancient Roman port of Ostia Antica is a good example. A short train ride (which the kids loved) brought us to the village adjacent to the port. Katia scheduled some time for the kids (ages 6 and 8) to run up and down the original paved chariot road with wheel marks! Then she evoked Jack and Annie from “The Magic Tree House” to focus the children’s interest (and excitement) about life in this important seaport of imperial Rome. The kids loved entering the Mithras “cave” temple and we enjoyed Katia’s in-depth knowledge of the obscure history.” Fred, San Francisco, CA.
