Before Joining Ciao Bambino…

I came to Ciao Bambino from a career in internationalism and education. I have a bachelor’s degree in foreign affairs and a master’s degree in education and am passionate about both fields. I worked for a non-profit to pave the way for college students from Russia and Central Asia to study in the U.S, I helped launch a master’s program for Harvard University in international development and I worked for a member of Congress on policy issues, including education. My position at Ciao Bambino was a natural fit.

I believe that travel is a powerful tool to educate young and old alike. Travel exposes us to cultures that are different from our own, gives us context to understand world history and impresses us with the beauty of our natural environment. Travel inherently leads us to tolerance and understanding. I relish the opportunity to grow a company that encourages travel for young people while their world views are developing.

My Favorite Travel Destinations

I love to learn about cultures that are different from my own. I was fascinated by Istanbul, Turkey, its incredible market which dates to the 1400’s, the confluence of East meets West, the evidence of empires which ruled the area throughout history, and the call to prayer from its many minarets, not to mention the gorgeous rugs for sale. Another favorite is Samarkand, an ancient city in central Asia on the Silk Road, as well as Bukhara, both in Uzbekistan. In both cities, I was astounded by the gorgeous mosques with their turquoise domes, the famous and not so famous, including one we found being used as a fort by neighborhood children. I lived in St. Petersburg, Russia, in my 20’s and as a art lover, spent lots of time at the Hermitage museum, never scratching the surface of the massive collection, which spans prehistoric through modern art. I’ve also returned to Rome many times over my lifetime for the history, artwork, people and food, and southern Spain is a newfound favorite.

Why I Love My Job

I love supporting a female entrepreneur as she works to build something of meaning and value and strives to have a positive impact on the world. I love that Amie’s vision has created flexible, meaningful jobs for so many women, many of whom are also raising children. The world of work can be limiting for mothers, and this company is a bright light in that landscape. Helping a startup get off the ground is challenging, exciting and a fantastic learning environment, and I am grateful for the opportunity to play my part.
