How to Explain Germany’s History to Children
When I told my eight-year-old daughter that I was researching a holiday in Berlin, she asked me where that was. When I told her it was in Germany she looked at me horrified, ‘Weren’t “we” at war with Germany?’ she asked. ‘Didn’t “they” do really bad things?’
‘Yes’ and ‘Yes’ was the answer, ‘but…’
How do you explain that ‘but’?
When you’re ready to dip your children’s tiny little toes into Africa, Marrakech, in the heart of the former French colony of Morocco and a short skip from Spain, is where to begin. With its wide Parisian-style boulevards in the new part of the city and its narrow rabbit warren-like donkey cart runs within the old walls of the Medina, it offers both first world luxury and developing world charm.
We had a tremendous family ski trip to Keystone this winter. This award-winning Colorado ski resort offers families optimal terrain and accommodations, an exceptional Keystone kids’ ski school program, as well as off-mountain fun for all ages.
Keystone also offers fantastic parents-only perks including the spa at the Keystone Lodge and a dinner worthy of a very special date night at the historic Ski Tip Lodge.
Spring is coming. This is about the time of year many families start replacing trips to the snow with trips to the beach. If you’re ready to reach into the closet for flip flops instead of ski boots, think about a family vacation in Santa Cruz.
There’s plenty of great things to do with kids of all ages in Santa Cruz, but its location sets it apart from other Northern California beachside areas.
If you’re looking for a getaway full of adventure, good food, beautiful sunsets and plenty of activity for both you and the kids, consider a visit to the Phoenix/Mesa area of Arizona. Both cities, only 15 miles apart, offer an abundance of options for everyone, from learning about Indians, to hot air ballooning, to farm excursions to hiking trails in the desert.
Here’s my list of top things to do in Phoenix/Mesa with kids:
London is a fantastic place to eat out with your kids, as long as you know where to look. Wander along the main tourist thoroughfares of Knightsbridge, Oxford Street and Regent Street and you could quickly enter panic mode as the time creeps nearer to dinner time, and the ‘I’m hungry whines turn to I’m starving and you’re searching in vain for a decent restaurant.
The answer is normally to head down a side street, or alternatively, call up this blog on your smart phone. Here are my recommendations:
Eating through San Francisco with my baby son has been one of the biggest joys of parenthood for me because there are so many restaurants to explore that offer delicious food that appeals to both baby and mommy taste buds.
When Amie asked me to share my picks for five family-friendly restaurants in San Francisco, it was really tough to pick my favorites out of so many amazing eateries in the city.
Self-catering apartments and villas are ideal accommodations when traveling with kids in the countryside of Italy. The only downside is that if there is no onsite restaurant available, the meal hassle-factor grows exponentially.
1. Villages are rarely walkable from rural apartments and villas in Tuscany. Even if the accommodations are within walking distance, these are not roads that are kid-friendly, particularly at night. Think no sidewalks, no lights, blind corners …
The topic for this months’ Travel Blog Mob post is travel ideas that make us smile. While there are many things about travel that make give me the grins, there is one constant eurphoria producer — ice cream.
The irony is I’m not one of of those people that goes crazy for dessert, but I do love the thrill of hunting for incredible artisan ice cream. Moreover, this is a travel activity your kids will enthusiastically join and a way to inspire them to explore a neighborhood with you.
Is it possible to travel with a child that has extreme allergies? I put Disney to the test this winter. My son has Eosinaphilic Esophagitis, which causes a continued narrowing of the esophagus in response to food allergies, making avoidance of the foods the most favorable cure.
We were in the right in the process of addressing this when we had the opportunity to go on Disney Dream’s inaugural voyage.
