“Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.” — John Steinbeck, 1953

Family-Friendly Review and Highlights of Hotel Poseidon Positano

Location

Be prepared to do a lot of walking and climbing. The most stunning views in Positano require the most work! Hotel Poseidon is located higher up on the cliffs and requires many stairs or a taxi ride to reach. For this reason, families with younger children may not find it a good fit (though keep in mind that most of Positano requires traversing stairs). If you’re arriving by ferry, call the hotel upon arrival and they will send a porter down to take your bags up.

Accommodations

The hotel’s 48 rooms vary in size and style, but all have either a patio or a terrace with panoramic views. Hotel Poseidon once was an exquisite villa, and much of the furniture belonging to the original owners still remains. The decor has a Mediterranean flair and features Majolica tile from Vietri. Superior rooms are more spacious and have better views than standard rooms, and suites offer a more luxurious feel with a separate living room space and a larger terrace. There are many options for connecting rooms and suites that would be suitable for a family.

Dining

Il Tridente, the onsite restaurant, specializes in the typical dishes of the Campania region, known as Neapolitan cuisine and combining elements of land and sea. There is a spacious dining area inside and also a terrace with spectacular cliff and water views. In the evening, live music adds even more beauty to the atmosphere. There are several alternative options for those who are allergic to gluten or other food products.

Just across the street is a small market where you can pick up basic groceries and sandwiches. There are also several highly rated restaurants within easy walking distance.

Amenities

The pool area looks over the town of Positano and the bay. Equipped with lounge chairs, shady areas, and a bar, it is a perfect spot for kids to cool off while Mom and Dad relax. The onsite spa offers massages and beauty treatments, and has a Turkish bath built right into the cliff rock. Guests can also reserve the hotel’s vintage Volkswagen Beetle and take it for a spin along the coastline (warning, this is not for the faint of heart).

With the natural landscape and breathtaking views of the rocky Amalfi Coast, Hotel Poseidon’s charm and picturesque setting will bring guests an experience to be treasured in that chest of unforgettable vacation memories.
