Between transportation, lift tickets, lodging, lessons, and meals, a family ski vacation can be a budget buster. Fortunately, our good friends at Park City, hosting three of the best family-friendly ski resorts in North America, have put some serious thought into creating value for families.
Save money on a family ski vacation in Park City, Utah
Take advantage of the Park City’s Quick Start program
Grab a morning flight from almost anywhere to Salt Lake City International Airport and be skiing or snowboarding on our slopes the same afternoon. The Park City Quick S.T.A.R.T. (Ski Today and Ride Today) Vacation converts an airline boarding pass into a same-day lift ticket to the Park City resort of choice. It’s a chance to get a free, ski or snowboard, same-day lift ticket at any of Park City’s resorts: Deer Valley Resort, Canyons Resort, or Park City Mountain Resort.
This program works because Park City is only 35 minutes from the Salt Lake City airport. Access is ridiculously easy. Be sure and check the Quick START page on the Visit Park City website for black out dates and details.
We flew Delta on our outbound flight and Southwest home on our last trip to Park City. Our family of three had a total of two ski bags, in addition to one bag carrying clothes and boots per person. The total one-way baggage bill? $145.
Return baggage bill on Southwest? $0. The base ticket price was comparable. Enough said.

Stay at a Condo and Cook Meals
I’m not a big fan of cooking on vacation, but skiing is a different story as we’re usually zonked at the end of the day and eating at home feels great. Given the plethora of condo-style accommodations throughout the Park City Area, saving money on food is a synch. If you need meal ideas see my post on, Amanda Haas, chef and mom, who has written a family-focused cookbook, Cooking Light Real Family Food, filled with perfect family vacation options.
Buy Lift Tickets on Liftopia
Liftopia specializes in discount lift tickets and offers huge ski savings throughout Utah.
Skip Skiing for a Day
There is a wide array of fun and interesting things to do in and around Park City for days off the mountain. Ideas include Gorgoza, offering seven lift-served tubing lanes. Parents can relax here as the operation is well organized and safety is top of mind. An afternoon here will easily keep all ages happily entertained for hours.
Pricing for kids under 42” (minimum age is 3) is $12 for a 2-hour ticket and $18 for a 4-hour ticket. Parents will want to tube with little kids so it’s important to factor in their tickets to the budget. Pricing for them is $22 for a 2-hour ticket and $33 for a 4-hour ticket.
In addition, Park City hosted the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Families can watch athletes train in the US Olympic training facility, visit the Alf Engen Ski Museum, or the Eccles Olympic Winter Games Museum. Check out the Visit Park City website for a full list of ideas.
