Family-Friendly Boutique Hotel on the Left Bank in Paris

Finding a family-friendly hotel on the Left Bank in Paris is not an easy task. Many of the boutique hotels are in the typical compact buildings of this area which means room configurations that sleep families are rare.

We’ve recommended a boutique property for years now in the 6th arrondissement called the Victoria Palace Hotel. I stayed there with another family over the holidays and was reminded why this property makes a perfect home-base with kids in Paris.

7th Arrondissement Location

Nestled on a quiet street between the Rue de Rennes and the Rue de Vaugirard, you are just a few-minute walk from a Metro station and have immediate access to loads of casual, kid-friendly restaurants and shops. The broad avenues here are big and busy (the downside), but within no time you can be happily immersed in all the quaint charm one expects to find when staying on the Left Bank.

In fact, one of my favorite features of the Victoria Palace is a shopping guide to the area which introduces a fantastic list of unusual shops and culinary delights you’d otherwise miss, including a chocolate tour. If you want to picnic in one of Paris’ incredible parks (recommended!), you are a 10-minute walk from La Grand Epicerie de Paris with an eye-popping array of gourmet, portable goodies.

A Parisian Paris Hotel

While I love boutique hotels with modern, stylish interiors, it’s easy to lose a sense of place; take away the windows and many of them start to look the same. You know you are in Paris when you are staying at the Victoria Palace — your home does not look like this — a true “vacation” hotel experience.

Public areas are decadent, plush, and cozy. Rooms are traditional and comfortable. They have just a few connecting rooms options — but those they do have are spacious and absolutely ideal for a family.

Kid-Friendly Service and Attitude

Kids’ clubs are not what make a city hotel family-friendly. In addition to room configurations that support larger groups, kid-friendly service and attitude are the key factors in the best urban family hotels.

Frankly, many boutique hotels in Paris simply don’t want to cater to families. Not so here. The Victoria Palace is a wonderful example of a property who manages to genuinely welcome everyone that walks in their front door. For kids, a huge paper cone filled with treats sends an immediate message — “Bonjour, we want you to be here!”

Right for Everyone?

The Victoria Palace is not right for everyone. It’s not one of those generic hotel — “its just a place to sleep” — experiences. If you want the latest and greatest chic scene, this is not for you. If you want a constant social buzz in the lobby lounge, this is not for you.

The property has a limited number of configurations that support families. What they do have represents their largest room categories and configurations — hotel-speak for this property is not a budget option. It’s fairly priced for this quality category (and much less expensive than a full service 5-star). Photos courtesy of Amie O’Shaughnessy. Ciao Bambino received complimentary lodging on our last visit. We were not asked to present any particular point of view.
