Photo Friday: Costa Rica with Kids

We’re in Costa Rica this week with the award-winning tour operator Kensington Tours. Extraordinary family travel moments are the norm here — I can’t wait to share all the details of our experience.

In the meantime, here’s a peek at a highlight from our family trip in Costa Rica. We saw not just one, but three different Quetzal birds in Monteverde. Birdwatching fanatics travel here from around the world to see these elusive, colorful birds and often leave without a glimpse … lucky us!

Birdwatching is underrated. Our 10-year-old is calling the Quetzal sighting a favorite moment, right next to his zip-line adventure down the highest cable in Costa Rica.

We also got an amazing video of the Quetzal in action through the telescope. The video is small, but it’s fun to see this spectacular animal in motion.

  1. My son has always loved bird-watching too, though as he gets older he’s more embarrassed about it. Too bad. Like you say, it’s definitely underrated. Beautiful Quetzal.

  2. I have been to Costa Rica one time and it’s my absolute favorite destination! I can’t wait to visit every area, we saw colorful birds i Manuel Antonio and were told “oh, that’s nothing!”
